Filmed at sea, from the air and below the surface
Vessels, trials and subsea equipment filmed where the work happens: on deck, from a camera boat, from the air and from the vehicle itself. Planned around weather, tides and the crew’s day, and delivered while the work is still news.
Films made by people who know their way around a vessel
Planned around the sea
Weather windows, tides, port security and the vessel’s schedule go into the plan, with a fallback for the shots that can be done alongside.
Safe on board
One videographer, or a videographer and a videographer-photographer for aerial, surface and subsea angles of the same moment. Our own risk assessment, standard PPE, and the habit of following the master and the deck crew.
Above and below the surface
Deck and aerial footage cut with the vehicle’s own cameras, so the film shows the job from launch to the data that goes back to the client.

Real operations, not renders
A media bank from one trial can feed a website, a tender, a trade stand and a year of posts. We plan the story before anyone boards, so the footage has a narrative rather than a pile of clips. If you’re planning a shoot, read our guide to filming on vessels and defence sites.

Sea Trials
Mobilisation, launch, the operation and recovery, filmed from the deck, a camera boat and the air. Trials are treated as real jobs, so the footage reads like one.

ROV & AUV Operations
Vehicles in the water, the control room and the operator’s screens, with the vehicle camera footage collected and graded for the edit. See the Atlantas Marine work.

Vessels Under Way
Aerial passes of ships, workboats and yachts at sea and in harbour, planned around airspace and port rules.

Yards, Harbours & Launch Events
Steel cuts, naming ceremonies and milestones on working sites, covered from several angles and turned around in days. See the Navantia UK steel cut film.

Crew & Engineer Interviews
Short pieces to camera on deck or in the workshop, with clean audio, so the people doing the work explain it.

Photography for Sales & Tenders
Edited stills from every shoot, tagged by vehicle, environment and likely use, so the sales team can find one in minutes.

A marketing and media studio for defence, maritime, engineering and technology businesses. One lead, a team of specialists, and a brief you only give once.
Technical industries only
We work only with defence, maritime, engineering and technology businesses, so your team doesn’t have to explain the basics.
How a project runs →One lead, the right specialists
You brief one person once. Each part goes to a specialist who does that work every day, and you keep one point of contact from start to finish.
Meet the team →Discretion as standard
Every specialist works to the same confidentiality terms on every job. We handle material, sites and information with the same care you do.
What we hold ourselves to →50DEGREES was founded by Jack Abbiss after eight years as a Royal Navy Marine Engineer Officer, so specifications, trials and procurement routes are familiar ground, not something to learn on your budget.
Yes. On board, from a camera boat, from the quayside and from the air. Each shoot is planned around weather, tides and the vessel’s schedule, with a fallback for what can be done alongside.
Yes. Aerial footage is planned around airspace permissions, port rules and the conditions on the day, and we confirm clearance to fly from or near the vessel before the shoot.
We collect and grade the footage from the vehicle’s own cameras and cut it with the deck and aerial shots, so the film shows the whole job. Where a camera can’t reach, 3D animation can fill the gap.
We film on inspection platforms, workboats and at test sites now. Where a site needs offshore survival training or a medical, such as BOSIET or GWO, we arrange it for the crew ahead of the shoot and agree the cost with you first.
We agree a weather window and a fallback date with you in advance, and plan the shots that can be done in harbour or alongside in case conditions rule out going to sea.
A confidentiality guide is agreed before filming: what stays out of frame, how third-party names and logos are handled, and who signs off. Each client’s footage and information is kept separate from every other client’s.
