Community Film for a Wind Energy Developer

CWP Energy wanted to show what its wind farm means for the people of Dunbar. We filmed local volunteers and businesses supported by its community funding, alongside aerial footage of the town, the coast and the turbines.

The brief

Showing the Local Benefit of a Wind Farm

Wind farms are often judged from a distance. CWP Energy wanted people to hear directly from the community it supports.

01

Real people

The film features volunteers and business owners, not spokespeople, and most had never been filmed before.

02

Linking turbines to the town

The film had to connect turbines on the hills with the lifeboat crew and surf school in the town.

03

Coast and weather

Filming the RNLI and a surf school on the East Lothian coast depended on the sea and the weather.

Our solution

Local Stories, Filmed Where They Happen

We filmed each contributor at their own base and used aerial footage to tie the town, the coast and the wind farm together.

1

Interviews on location

An RNLI volunteer on the lifeboat, the owner of Coast to Coast Surf School and others talk about their work and what the community funding has made possible.

2

Aerial footage

Drone shots of Dunbar, its harbour and beaches, and the turbines on the hills above the town.

3

A story from coast to hills

The edit moves from the sea and the town up to the turbines, so the link between them is clear.

A Film the Community Can Share

CWP Energy has a film that shows its community funding at work through the people who benefit from it.

Local voices

The message comes from the community rather than the developer.

Aerial footage of the area

Coast, town and turbines filmed from the air for this film and future use.

For the community and beyond

Suits community events, planning consultations and CWP Energy's own channels.

Useful lessons for businesses

Let the community speak

Local people describing the benefit carry more weight than a press release.

Use the landscape

Aerial footage puts the project in its setting.

Connect cause and effect

Showing where the funding goes makes the link easy to follow.
