Product Launch Film for an Underwater Robot
VideoRay needed a film to introduce Wraith, its new underwater vehicle, to defence and offshore buyers. We combined 3D product animation, motion graphics and filmed footage to explain what it does and how it compares.
Explaining a New ROV to Technical Buyers
Wraith is a new vehicle. Buyers needed to understand its capability, its payload and how it improves on VideoRay's Defender without reading a datasheet.
Little field footage
A new vehicle has very little real-world footage, so most of the story had to be told another way.
A technical audience
Thrust, sensors, payload and battery options all had to be shown accurately for engineers and procurement teams.
Showing the improvement
Buyers already know Defender. The film needed to show clearly where Wraith does better.

3D Animation, Motion Graphics and Live Footage
We built the film in three layers: a 3D model of the vehicle, animated data, and filmed footage of the real thing.
3D product model
Close-ups of the thrusters, lights and hull, then labelled views of the Ultra 4K camera, LED modules, forward-looking sonar, DVL, payload bay and battery options.
Animated comparisons
Motion graphics show six degrees of freedom from ten thrusters, 80lbs of forward thrust in any attitude, range up to 1km and a 1km descent in 12 minutes against 15 for Defender.
The real vehicle
Footage of engineers working on Wraith and the vehicle in the test tank, so the film ends on the real hardware.

A Launch Film That Does the Explaining
VideoRay has one film that covers what a buyer needs to know about Wraith, from its specification to seeing it in the water.
Descent time made clear
The 1km descent comparison with Defender is shown in one animated sequence rather than a table.
Every key spec on screen
Thrusters, sensors, payload and batteries are labelled as the model turns, so nothing is lost in narration.
Ready for sales and shows
Marine Technology TV published the film in December 2025 as part of the Wraith launch coverage. It also works on the website, in sales meetings and on a trade stand.
Useful lessons for businesses
Animate what you can't film
3D fills the gaps when a new product has no field footage yet.
Compare, don't just list
Showing the improvement over a known product is more convincing than a spec sheet.
Finish on the real thing
Ending on filmed footage reassures buyers the product exists and works.
